Staying Above Water

Hi faithful readers - all 4 of you! I know this blog has been sadly neglected for a couple of weeks, but I plead "new job overload." I started my new job on Monday and it's been a massive amount of input into my brain, and very little time for thinking straight otherwise. I have a lot to learn, but I'm hoping it will be a more exciting and rewarding gig in the long run. But right now I feel I'm barely keeping my head above the water.

In the meantime, Molly and I had a great mother/daughter trip to the zoo last Friday. Yes, we were just there a month ago, but they actually opened a new exhibit in the meantime. I have some great photos of Molly in the new aviary exhibit, but I can't get them off my camera for the time being. But they have a new exhibit where you can get a stick with birdseed on it and the beautiful canaries will land right on your stick that you are holding. Awesome! Molly is still too scared to get that close to the birds and animals, but I sure had a blast! She did, however, enjoy running around in the little prairie dog hill where you can pop your head up in little plastic bubbles in the hill and get a prairie dog view of the world. Molly was actually too short to pop up to the top of those; she just liked running in the tubes.

Hope to have photos up soon. In the meantime, we're eagerly anticipating a visit this weekend to see Grandma and Grandpa T.!

Under where?

I have neglected to mention another favorite new activity of Molly's. She seems to really enjoy taking my dirty laundry out of my hamper and wearing it. Draping it all over herself as best she can. In particular, she likes to wear my underwear around her neck. I know. So, the other day I was organizing my underwear drawer because it was just exploding all over the place. I took it out and put it on the bed for organization. Molly jumped right in there and proceeded to pull out all my underwear and wear it around her neck. She was very single minded about it, picking through the socks and whatnot and going straight for her goal. So, here's Molly, our lingerie model!

Summertime with Molly

My poor updating of this blog continues! I keep forgetting to bring my camera to work so I can upload photos, so this will be a photo-less posting. We need to get ourselves a photo card reader thingamabob at home so I can do it from there.

Molly is enjoying the end of summer. She and Daddy have gone swimming a couple of times with some nearby friends and their daughter Issie. She enjoys splashing around in the kiddie pool of the community pool. We also had a great time at the jungle gym this past weekend, when Molly went in a circuit of climbing stairs and sliding down a slide about 25 times in a row, all by herself! Another favorite activity has been enjoying bubbles. I tell ya, nothing is better than a 99 cent thingy of bubbles to delight a kid. She yells "Bubbas!" whenever she sees the bottle. Another favorite sport? Blowing raspberries on mom's belly. It cracks her up so much.

We are in the process of selling our apartment and buying a home. Assuming it all works out correctly, we should be moving in October. Too late to get much enjoyment out of our new backyard for the season, I'm afraid, but we'll be so excited to have it next summer! We hope to plant flowers, maybe grow some veggies, and let Molly have the run of the place. Though I think we'll have to build a fence first, since there's nothing dividing our yard from the neighbors'. So she might end up wandering away unless we box her in. Hopefully the neighbors won't think we're being unfriendly. Good fences make good neighbors, right?

Zoo-m!

I've been very remiss in updating this page since our trip to Maine. We've had a crazy couple of weeks. We are keeping our fingers crossed that our apartment will really sell this time, and we're close to finding a house ourselves. Plus Mommy has accepted a new job. So -- many life changes all at once!

We went to the zoo the other weekend -- a little zoo near our home that is just perfect for families. It's just the right size to see everything in under two hours. There's a petting zoo, pony rides, and an awesome little train ride that we all enjoyed (see above photo). We went with some good friends who all have kids of their own. It was a big hit with grown ups and kids alike.

The Wogger has been chugging right along at full speed these days. She is curious about everything, has learned to climb up onto the dining room table when no one is looking, and has perfected her favorite word: "No!" She pretty much says no to every question you ask her, even when she means yes. She is also very good at pointing to a lot of her body parts when you name them. Elbow is one of her favorites, though when she tries to say it, it comes out "bubow." She still can only say a few words; we're anxiously awaiting the language breakthrough that we hope will make for fewer tantrums and screaming fits when she can't communicate what she wants.
